Does ashwagandha lower cholesterol?

Limited exploratory research does not establish ashwagandha as a cholesterol treatment. A small pilot found changes in some lipid measures, but did not demonstrate a clear LDL-cholesterol benefit or fewer cardiovascular events. It should not replace prescribed lipid treatment.

The pilot was small and short

A double-blind placebo-controlled study randomized 43 adults with overweight or obesity; 38 completed the 40-day intervention. Both groups received dietary guidance, and the intervention group took 500 mg daily of the tested preparation. This design cannot establish long-term cardiovascular effectiveness. [1]

Not all blood fats moved in the same way

The paper reported differences in triglycerides and VLDL-related measures. LDL-related improvements were not a clear advantage for ashwagandha; some occurred in the control group. Its lipid tables and narrative contain reporting inconsistencies, so precise effect estimates should be treated cautiously. [1]

Laboratory and computer findings are not clinical protection

The study also modeled possible compound-protein interactions. Such docking cannot demonstrate that a capsule prevents heart attack or stroke. Small samples, dietary cointervention and short follow-up leave substantial uncertainty; university publication support was acknowledged and no competing interests declared. [1]

Keep the treatment goal specific

Imagine LDL remains high despite prescribed care. A claim about triglycerides does not establish an alternative LDL treatment. Discuss the actual lipid results and all supplements with the treating clinician, including ashwagandha liver and medicine cautions. [2][3]
