Male testosterone findings are not consistent across measures
A 2026 systematic review found a small pooled total-testosterone signal, but no stable free-testosterone benefit. Evidence certainty was very low because of study limitations, different products and populations, imprecision and possible publication bias. [1]
Female studies answer narrower questions
A review of female sexual-health studies discusses a specialized fenugreek extract studied in menstruating women, with hormone and sexual-function measurements. Other research concerns menopausal populations or different routes. These findings do not establish a reliable estrogen increase for all women. [2][3]
Estrogen-like activity is not the same as replacing estrogen
A compound affecting a receptor in a laboratory does not demonstrate correction of a hormone deficiency. MSK highlights estrogenic laboratory activity as a reason for caution in hormone-sensitive cancer, rather than a reason to self-prescribe a supplement. [3]
Interpret the symptom before chasing a number
Imagine fatigue or low desire leads someone to choose a hormone-boosting capsule. Those symptoms do not identify a specific deficiency. Discuss appropriate assessment, and do not change prescribed hormone treatment based on a supplement claim. [4][5]
| Measurement | Limit |
|---|---|
| Total testosterone | Different from free testosterone |
| Selected female trial | Not every woman |
| Receptor activity | Not hormone replacement |
| Symptoms alone | Do not diagnose deficiency |
