Metallic uses depend on material properties

The Royal Society of Chemistry describes magnesium’s use in lightweight alloys, where it is combined with other metals to obtain useful engineering properties. A metal component is not the same material as a nutritional magnesium salt, even though both involve the same element. [1]

Biology uses magnesium in a different chemical context

Dietary magnesium is supplied in foods and compounds that provide magnesium ions. It participates in enzyme processes and normal physiological functions. The nutrient amount on a supplement label does not mean the capsule contains a piece of magnesium metal, and industrial material specifications do not establish suitability for ingestion. [2]

Keep intended uses separate

Imagine a shop sells a magnesium-containing industrial powder while a pharmacy sells a labeled magnesium supplement. A shared element name does not make them substitutes. Identity, purity, formulation and intended route are part of product suitability. Use only an appropriately labeled product for the intended purpose. [3][1]
