Making mushroom capsules: grinding, filling and storage

A capsule can hold mushroom powder, but it does not make the powder safe, standardized or effective. For lawful nonpsychoactive products, start with material intended for the proposed oral use and follow its preparation instructions. Do not encapsulate unknown wild mushrooms or assume dried raw food is ready to swallow.

Choose suitable powder before choosing capsules

Drying and grinding are not extraction or sterilization. A food mushroom requiring cooking does not become ready-to-eat when powdered. Use a traceable product appropriate for direct oral use, with its species, preparation and batch clearly identified. [1][2]

Grinding and filling need clean, dry equipment

For material whose instructions allow it, grind in a clean dry grinder, let dust settle and transfer to a clean container. Use compatible food-grade capsule shells and follow the capsule-filling device’s directions. Avoid inhaling powder and do not mix ingredients casually; blends complicate both uniformity and safety. [2][3]

Capsule size does not establish a dose

The mass held depends on powder density and packing. A scale can measure powder mass, but cannot measure untested active constituents or prove even distribution in a blend. Do not infer milligrams from the capsule’s appearance or choose a therapeutic amount from its capacity. [3][2]

Label and store without inventing an expiry

Imagine two jars contain similar brown capsules from different powders. Species, preparation, amount and batch records prevent confusion but do not replace testing. Follow ingredient and shell storage instructions, protect from moisture and keep out of children’s reach; no universal homemade shelf life is established. [3]
