What the historical entries show
USDA SR Legacy 2018 reports 3 IU vitamin D per 100 g for grilled choice porterhouse lean only and grilled choice T-bone lean only. A grilled all-grades top-round lean-only entry reports 1 IU per 100 g. These selected foods do not establish a value for every steak or cooking method. [1]
Do not turn a small rounded number into an exact assay
The entries’ total vitamin D fields useIU and micrograms with differing rounding. A zero in a rounded microgram field is not necessarily proof of an absolute absence when theIU field reports a small amount. The chosen calculation usesIU consistently and applies only to edible cooked tissue, not bone or raw purchase weight. [1]
A hypothetical dinner portion
A 150 g edible portion at 3 IU per 100 g gives 4.5 IU; at 1 IU per 100 g it gives 1.5 IU. These are small contributions compared with ordinary daily vitamin D intake references. A food’s protein or iron value does not imply that it is also a concentrated source of vitamin D. [1][2]
| Reference steak,150g edible | Vitamin D estimate |
|---|---|
| Choice porterhouse, grilled lean only | 4.5 IU |
| Choice T-bone, grilled lean only | 4.5 IU |
| Top round, all grades, grilled lean only | 1.5 IU |
