Needling changes the context of topical use
Microneedling creates punctures in the skin. A serum intended for ordinary surface application has not thereby been established as safe for delivery through those channels. FDA states that microneedling devices are not approved for delivering cosmetics, vitamin solutions or topical medicines into the skin. [1]
An authorization for the device is not one for every combination
The FDA’s device review concerns specific products and uses. It does not establish the safety of applying any vitamin C preparation during or immediately after a procedure. The agency lists risks including infection, pigment changes and stinging or itching when cosmetics are applied. [1]
Obtain a clear restart plan
Imagine a clinician performs a procedure and the person wants to resume an acidic serum that evening. Ask when that exact product can be restarted and what symptoms should trigger a call. Do not assume that deeper penetration is desirable or that a home roller makes the same combination safer. [1]
| Question | Practical interpretation |
|---|---|
| Device authorized for a use | Not every serum combination |
| Vitamin solution through punctures | Different from ordinary surface use |
| Restart timing | Follow the treating clinician’s plan |
