What was tested

Thirty-seven people with several advanced cancers received chemotherapy plus an Antrodia preparation or placebo. Supplementation lasted 30 days, and the primary outcome was six-month overall survival. [1]

The groups did not differ significantly in survival or disease control. Platelet counts were lower in the Antrodia group, while a sleep-quality measure favored it. A favorable secondary symptom result does not establish anticancer activity. [1]

How far the result applies

The small, mixed-cancer sample leaves substantial uncertainty. The observed platelet signal also prevents describing the combination as harmless. This study is not evidence to replace or independently alter oncology care. Funding and conflicts were not established from the retrieved abstract. [1]

A hypothetical reading of the evidence

Imagine sleep scores improve while the cancer endpoint does not. Those findings answer different questions and should remain separate.
