What happens when you mix weed and mushrooms?

Cannabis and psilocybin can produce unpredictable combined effects, including more intense perception changes, confusion and anxiety. Cannabis is not a reliable way to calm a difficult mushroom experience. Safety findings for either substance alone do not establish the safety of the combination.

Both can alter perception and judgment

ADF cautions that THC with psychedelics can intensify effects and contribute to confusion or a difficult experience. Individual reactions vary; prior tolerance of cannabis alone does not predict the response during psilocybin exposure. [1]

Clinical findings do not automatically transfer

Research protocols control the administered drug and screen participants. Combining unregulated products introduces uncertainty about active ingredients, potency and the contribution of each substance to symptoms. [2]

Do not add another drug to manage distress

If someone is anxious or confused, avoid giving cannabis, alcohol or another substance as a home reversal method. Seek poison-control advice for unwanted effects and emergency care for collapse, seizures, breathing difficulty or dangerous behavior. [3][4]

Explain the full combination to clinicians

Imagine panic increases after cannabis is added to a mushroom experience. Tell responders about both products and their timing. A familiar cannabis product does not rule out a serious or unexpected combined reaction. [2]
