The compound contains magnesium and glycinate

PubChem describes magnesium glycinate as a magnesium salt of glycine and gives the formula C 4H 8MgN 2O 4. The identity differs from simply listing magnesium metal or free glycine alone. It does not reveal a particular manufacturer’s raw-material source, production method or finished-product purity. Those require product-specific documentation. [1]

Why supplying magnesium can matter

Magnesium participates in many enzyme systems and supports normal nerve and muscle function. Providing the nutrient can help meet an intake need, but normal physiology does not establish that extra glycinate treats insomnia or anxiety in someone with adequate intake. The compound name is a starting point for identification, not a clinical outcome. [2]

A composition-versus-dose example

Imagine a label advertises a large glycinate weight and separately declares 100 mg magnesium per serving. Count 100 mg as elemental intake; do not count the full compound weight again. Additional ingredients and serving size still need inspection. A product-specific manufacturing or purity claim cannot be verified from the generic chemical formula. [2]
