Is Magtein the same as magnesium L-threonate? Brand, form and amount

Magtein is a branded magnesium L-threonate ingredient. Magnesium L-threonate names the compound, while Magtein identifies a particular commercial ingredient. Neither name alone describes every ingredient or the elemental magnesium amount in a finished supplement.

One name is a brand and the other is a form

The ingredient supplier identifies Magtein as magnesium L-threonate. The terms therefore overlap when describing that ingredient, but the general chemical name is not itself proof of a product’s supplier or authenticity. A finished supplement can combine the ingredient with other substances. [1][2]

Compound weight is not elemental magnesium weight

The inspected Solgar label declares 72 mg magnesium from 1,000 mg Magtein magnesium L-threonate per serving. These are two descriptions of the same ingredient contribution, not two magnesium doses to add together. The larger number includes the rest of the compound. ODS explains that the Supplement Facts magnesium amount represents elemental magnesium. [2][3]

Compare the full serving rather than a front-label number

The same label also lists a separate PhytoMemory blend. Thus, a branded ingredient name does not make all finished formulas identical. Check serving size, elemental magnesium, other active ingredients and directions on the actual package; this example is not a recommendation of the product. [2]

Identity does not settle a brain-health claim

A supplier’s description establishes how it names its ingredient, not an independent conclusion that it prevents dementia or outperforms all magnesium forms for every user. This identity guide does not appraise the ingredient’s clinical trials. Routine magnesium safety still matters, including kidney function, medicine interactions and intake from other nonfood sources. [1][3]

Use the elemental line for a hypothetical intake comparison

Imagine comparing a bottle displaying a large compound amount with one displaying a smaller magnesium amount. First find each serving’s elemental magnesium line. Only then can their nutrient contributions be compared; equal compound weights across different salts need not mean equal magnesium. [3][2]
