Is melatonin bad for men or testosterone?

Being male is not, by itself, a reason melatonin is always harmful or always appropriate. Research on reproductive signaling does not establish that ordinary sleep doses consistently lower or raise testosterone in men. Use should be guided by the sleep problem, medicines and symptoms rather than claims that melatonin is a testosterone blocker or booster.

Mechanistic effects do not define a predictable male response

Melatonin interacts with reproductive pathways in experimental research. The reviewed literature includes animal and assisted-reproduction settings and identifies important uncertainty in humans. Species, timing and biological conditions matter, so a pathway diagram is not a dose-response rule for every man. [1]

Do not use it as testosterone therapy

Neither a possible antioxidant effect nor a sleep benefit establishes treatment of testosterone deficiency. The Endocrine Society requires compatible symptoms and repeatedly low early-morning testosterone measurements for a diagnosis. Fatigue or a change in libido alone cannot identify the cause. [2]

Ordinary melatonin precautions still apply

Drowsiness, medicine interactions and limited long-term safety evidence remain relevant regardless of sex. A person trying to conceive or experiencing persistent reproductive symptoms should discuss the full regimen rather than assuming either a fertility benefit or inevitable harm. [3][4]

Match the decision to the actual goal

Imagine a man wants better sleep and higher testosterone. These are separate treatment questions. Review insomnia appropriately and investigate suspected hormone deficiency instead of escalating melatonin on the assumption that more sleep-related hormone means more testosterone. [2][3]
