The study and its comparison

Forty-six patients with psoriasis were randomized to a multistrain probiotic preparation or placebo in a double-blind trial. Investigators measured skin severity, quality of life and several inflammatory markers. [1]

The paper reported favorable differences in the psoriasis severity index and quality of life, together with changes in selected blood markers. These are distinct outcomes rather than a direct measure of cardiovascular events. [1]

What the finding establishes

Small numbers and short follow-up limit precision and generalization. A mixture result cannot isolate the contribution of each organism or validate every capsule with a similar label. Funding and conflicts were not established from the abstract. The study does not justify stopping prescribed psoriasis treatment. [1]

A hypothetical distinction

Imagine several organisms are supplied together. A favorable result does not reveal which one caused the change.
