Are garlic and ginger antifungal foods?

Food ingredients may show antimicrobial activity in laboratory experiments, but eating garlic or ginger is not an established treatment for a fungal infection. The organism, infection site, preparation and achieved concentration matter. A Candida infection should be diagnosed and treated with an appropriate antifungal plan.

Apple cider vinegar and pickle juice: sour does not mean probiotic

Apple cider vinegar is produced through fermentation, while some pickles are simply acidified with vinegar. Neither sourness nor the presence of vinegar “mother” proves that a serving delivers a studied probiotic strain and benefit.

Asparagus as a prebiotic food: useful variety, not a fixed gut-treatment dose

Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia includes asparagus among prebiotic foods. It can be part of a varied eating pattern, but this does not establish a precise clinical dose or guarantee symptom relief. Prebiotic food is also different from a product supplying live probiotic organisms.

Does baby formula have probiotics or prebiotics?

Some infant formulas contain probiotics, prebiotics or both; others do not. Probiotics are live microorganisms, while prebiotics are substrates used by selected microbes. Their presence does not automatically make one formula best for every infant or establish treatment of a feeding problem.

Does berberine kill good gut bacteria?

The claim that berberine only removes harmful microbes and leaves beneficial bacteria untouched is not supported. Human trials show mixed changes in gut communities, including decreases in some butyrate-producing bacteria. A change in relative abundance is not direct proof of bacterial killing or of overall harm or benefit.

Does berberine kill parasites?

Berberine has antimicrobial research behind it, but that does not establish a reliable parasite cleanse or a universal dose for human infections. Parasites include different organisms requiring different assessment and treatment. Do not treat persistent diarrhea or suspected worms by assuming a broad supplement claim identifies the cause.

How much berberine should you take for SIBO?

A universal self-treatment dose for SIBO is not established by the evidence reviewed here. A recent network review ranked berberine favorably, but it did not demonstrate significant superiority to rifaximin and did not formally compare treatment safety. Diagnosis, underlying causes and an individualized treatment plan come first.

What is the best probiotic to take with a PPI?

No probiotic is established as the universally best companion to a proton pump inhibitor. The reason for the PPI and the symptom being targeted matter more than the number of probiotic strains. Do not replace prescribed acid suppression or assume a supplement prevents all consequences of long-term treatment.

What is the best probiotic for kids? Choose by condition

There is no best probiotic for every child. The child’s age, diagnosis, exact strain and health status matter. Some preparations have evidence for antibiotic-associated diarrhea or selected infant-colic settings, but those findings do not establish a general daily supplement for all children.

Which probiotics are best for IBS, mood and other goals?

There is no single best probiotic across IBS, mood and other conditions. The useful comparison is a named preparation studied for a specific outcome. A product with many strains or a large CFU count does not automatically outperform a simpler product, and promising mood research does not replace mental-health treatment.
