Identify the product and route
An oral capsule and a product intended for vaginal use are different exposures. Nonmicrobial ingredients and local irritation may be relevant. Do not insert an oral supplement or food into the vagina, or increase the amount in an attempt to correct symptoms. [1][2]
Itching does not identify the diagnosis
NHS lists thrush, sexually transmitted infections, menopausal or breastfeeding-related hormone changes, skin conditions and irritation among possible explanations. Discharge, odor, soreness, urinary symptoms and new sexual exposure help guide assessment, but self-diagnosis can be unreliable. [1]
Do not use another probiotic as the default treatment
CDC does not support available probiotics as treatment for vulvovaginal candidiasis or as replacement or adjunctive therapy for BV. New, persistent or unusually severe symptoms deserve an examination or appropriate testing. Pelvic pain, fever or unusual discharge strengthens the need for prompt advice. [3][4][1]
Remove avoidable irritation while arranging care
Imagine itching appears after a new vaginal product. Stop that optional exposure and record the ingredients and timing. Avoid douching and scented hygiene products; gently wash the outside with water. Improvement after stopping can be informative without proving which ingredient caused the problem. [1]
