What causes sagging jowls? Aging, fat and collagen

Jowls reflect several changes in facial support, including reduced skin elasticity, changes in underlying fat and the effect of gravity. They are not simply a sign of a collagen deficiency that an oral supplement can replace.

The face changes at more than one layer

Cleveland Clinic describes age-related changes in collagen and elastin, thinning or loss of underlying fat and other structural changes. As elasticity declines, gravity contributes to loose tissue around the cheeks and jaw. The pattern differs among people, so a single ingredient cannot be presumed to correct every cause. [1]

A skin-study result does not demonstrate a jawline lift

Collagen trials may measure hydration or elasticity, with important study-quality limitations. Such outcomes do not establish reversal of displaced tissue or a clinically meaningful jowl lift. A photograph, short-term plumping or a general anti-aging claim is not equivalent to that evidence. [2]

Match the option to the actual concern

Imagine a product promises to eliminate jowls by supplying collagen. Ask what human study measured that result. A qualified clinician can assess whether the concern involves skin, volume or other structural changes and discuss realistic options. A supplement should not be sold as a guaranteed substitute for that assessment. [1][3]
