The study and its comparison

One hundred fourteen women aged 45–65 were randomized to 2.5 grams daily of the studied peptides or placebo. Wrinkles were assessed during intake and again four weeks after it stopped. [1]

Wrinkle-volume changes favored the active group. A biopsy subgroup also showed differences in procollagen I and elastin, while the fibrillin result was not significant. [1]

What the finding establishes

An objective wrinkle measurement and a biochemical marker are distinct outcomes. Neither establishes the same benefit from every marine, bovine or mixed collagen product. The trial does not establish indefinite effects or suitability for all ages. Funding and conflicts were not established from the retrieved abstract, so independent replication remains relevant. [1]

A hypothetical distinction

Imagine a product shares the word collagen but has a different peptide mixture. This trial alone cannot establish that it gives the same result.
