The study and its comparison

One hundred twenty people with stage II or III pressure ulcers entered a 16-week three-arm trial; 112 completed it. All received standard care plus one of two hydrolysates or placebo. [1]

The preparation richer in two specified small peptides improved healing scores and wound area relative to placebo. The other formulation improved only one of the reported scoring comparisons. [1]

What the finding establishes

Different formulations did not produce identical results. These oral preparations are also different from a collagen dressing placed on a wound. Nitta Gelatin funded the trial and two researchers were company employees. The selected wounds and treatment setting limit extrapolation to burns, surgical wounds or unrelated injuries. [1]

A hypothetical distinction

Imagine a supplement is tested alongside pressure relief and wound care. Its result does not justify removing the accompanying care.
