Separate a symptom from a diagnosis
Nausea, cramps or diarrhea after magnesium are recognized possible adverse effects. Calling any discomfort gastritis assumes a diagnosis the symptom cannot make. Review the product and timing, and seek assessment if pain or other symptoms persist. [1][2]
Treatment follows the underlying cause
NIDDK describes different approaches for H. pylori infection, NSAID-related gastropathy, bile reflux and autoimmune gastritis. An infection requires an appropriate eradication regimen, while other causes need different management. A magnesium supplement does not perform those treatments’ roles. [2]
Antacid relief is not proof of healing the cause
A magnesium-containing antacid may relieve acid indigestion according to its label. Relief does not establish that H. pylori has been eradicated or another stomach-lining disorder has resolved. Do not replace a prescribed gastritis treatment with a nutritional magnesium product. [3][2]
Choose magnesium only for a separate, justified purpose
If magnesium is needed, review elemental amount, tolerance, kidney function and interactions with the treating clinician. No salt is established here as best for gastritis. Imagine symptoms worsen after a new supplement: changing to a more expensive form is not a substitute for reviewing the cause and entire treatment plan. [1][2]
| Observation | What remains unresolved |
|---|---|
| Symptoms after magnesium | Cause and diagnosis |
| Relief after antacid | Underlying disorder may remain |
| A gastritis diagnosis | Cause-specific treatment is needed |
