The study and its comparison

The randomized research included 100 participants. Its population was ambulatory adults monitored with wearable devices. The comparison used random daily instructions to drink caffeinated coffee or avoid caffeine, with observation over fourteen days. [1]

Premature atrial contractions averaged 58 versus 53 per day, a nonsignificant difference. Coffee days had more premature ventricular contractions and steps, less sleep, and no significant glucose difference. [1]

What the finding establishes

The randomized crossover assessed acute effects in a small, relatively young cohort. It cannot establish long-term cardiovascular harm or benefit, and participants knew their assignment. Ashwagandha combinations were not tested. UCSF and NIH funded the study; complete conflicts were not established from the abstract. [1]

A hypothetical distinction

Imagine one type of extra heartbeat increases while another does not. Combining both into a single arrhythmia claim loses the primary distinction.
